Assistant Buyer/Buyer

Position Overview:

Recent opportunities have arisen for two dynamic Assistant Buyers/Buyers looking for a new challenge within a rapidly expanding and highly driven business.

Operating within our busy Purchasing team we are seeking an enthusiastic people for the procurement of supplies, materials and finished goods to fulfil the demands of the business.

Responsibilities will include liaising with vendors and internal departments, order placement, tracking of deliveries, stock management and replenishment/expediting to ensure the cost effective purchases along with stock availability.

Procurement categories covered between the two positions would include outsourced product from UK and overseas, raw materials, packaging, stationery, MRO and services.

Location:

The location of the role is within our modern head office, alongside its Production site and Distribution Centre located on Whitebirk Industrial Estate, Blackburn.

With a broad range of capabilities and distribution channels worldwide, Pets Choice are proud to be a major supplier to the UK grocery, independents and pet speciality sectors.

Role:

• Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing needs.
• Liaise with suppliers, being effective in the negotiation of costs to ensure price
competitiveness of supply.
• Benchmark prospective vendors and price comparison against existing approved
vendors.
• Communicate with suppliers to agree delivery schedules and checking order progress to
ensure that they are maintained.
• Analyse and report on spend, service levels, trends and market information.
• Investigate and follow through to a satisfactory resolve of non-compliance of goods.
• Collate and maintain vendor audits & product documentation records for company
compliance.
• Investigate and resolve invoice queries and service level issues.
• Specify and source products and services for NPD or business needs in conjunction with
applicable departments.
• Assisting with stock takes and analysis.
• Liaise with warehouse staff to ensure all products arrive in good condition.

Key attributes and skills:

• Able to interpret numerical data, form conclusions and make quick informed decisions.
• Good relationship building skills both verbally and written; confident in dealing with a
diverse range of people.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet
deadlines.
• Adaptable and flexible, and with a high level of attention to detail.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications, intermediate level Excel skills are of
particular importance. Experience with MS NAV Dynamics is a benefit.
• Previous purchasing experience or procurement related qualifications.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team or individually, and have good time management.
• A high level of enthusiasm and initiative.
• Eligibility to work in the UK on a permanent basis.
• Must be fluent in English.
• Polite, courteous and well presented.
• Full UK and clean driving licence is preferred.

Package:

The package on offer comprises of a competitive salary based on experience. 

Core working hours are 37.5 hours per week, however due to the nature of the role some out of hours working will be required.

The role is office based, however there will be a requirement to regularly visit the warehouse and production sites to fulfil accountabilities. It may also be necessary to occasionally visit suppliers or consumer shows.
